Be Bold For Change was the theme for International Women’s Day (IWD) this year and Figtree hosted a breakfast on March 8, in celebration of women and positive change toward gender equality in the workforce.
As an innovative social enterprise initiative of Flourish Australia, Figtree Conference Centre is all about creating employment opportunities for the marginalised. Guests at our IWD breakfast and exhibition were treated to a taste of the Figtree difference, in support of the bigger picture of workplace equality.
Upon arrival, guests were treated to café-quality coffee, from our Coffee Cart and browsed an exhibition of artworks on display in our in-house art gallery. The artworks were all inspired by women and created by the people who access Flourish Australia services; carers and Flourish staff.
A surprise flash-mob of some 50 women from the Hummingsong Women’s Community Choir, suddenly bursting into song, was met with great excitement.
It was our privilege to then have multi-award winning national motivational speaker Fay Jackson share her remarkable story. As Deputy Commissioner, NSW Mental Health Commission and GM – Inclusion Flourish Australia, Fay is a passionate educator and public voice for mental health who has taken bold steps to become one of Australia’s foremost advocates for mental health.
Decadent platters of breakfast canapés were enjoyed at rustic table settings with burlap and lavender theming and beautifully boxed macarons were given as a token of the generosity of spirit for which the Figtree team is renowned.
